HORSEBACK
|
As an important part of our plan to provide a safe and enjoyable Horseback Program, we have owned, rather than leased, our horses ever since our first summer in 1948. Camp Mac currently owns a string of 40 horses, and riding instruction is offered to campers of all ages at no extra charge. Instructors divide campers into riding groups according to their ability and work with each boy and girl every other day throughout the entire term. Within each riding group, each camper chooses his or her own horse and becomes part of a term-long instructional group made up of the same 8-10 campers and 2 instructors. Emphasis is placed first on safety and then on the fun of learning to ride and handle horses. Campers rotate between days riding in the ring for instruction and fun and days riding on the trail just for fun! Over 10 miles of scenic mountain trails are used for rides, and in a 4 Week Term each camper can expect to get in around 30 miles worth of saddle time!
