BALANCED PROGRAM morning program: wilderness skills

WILDERNESS SKILLS

Wilderness Skills is a very important part of a complete camp program. Rather than sitting at home in the air-conditioning with computers, TVs and telephones connecting them to the outside world, Camp Mac campers connect directly with the world outside! Boys and girls learn to pitch a tent and tie the right knot for the job; how to identify trees and snakes; proper first-aid techniques; and wilderness survival skills. They learn about the “bugs and the bees” (insect identification), and how to start a campfire…with or without a match! Campers go on hikes to several beautiful waterfalls in the Camp Mac area, and even find time to test their agility and coordination on a variety of low-level ropes course challenges! At the end of each term we zip things up with a thrill ride down our 100-yard-long “Zip Line”!
